Year 6
Welcome to the Year 6 class page.
The class teacher is Mr Conlon.
Mrs Munro will be teaching the class on Thursdays.
The class is joined by Mrs Petela, Mrs Martin & Mrs Zorab for some lessons.
PE is on Wednesday and Friday afternoons.
Homework
Homework will be sent home weekly on a Friday and must be returned by the following Friday. Children will be given Literacy, Maths and spelling homework each week. Occasionally additional homework will be given for science or topic work.
Alongside the set homework:
Please ensure that your child has a suitable reading book (there are plenty in school!) and reads on a daily basis (preferably to an adult).
By Year Six we would expect most children to be confident in both multiplication and division facts up to 12 x12.
We also have websites to aid children’s learning, including our own learning links found on the school website.

In this topic we will be exploring our school mission statement. We will be thinking about the qualities of St Joseph and how we can help others.
We will focus on our school charity: Clifton Diocese Schools Project - Uganda. We will make junk model wishing wells to collect money and think of other ways to raise awareness & money.
We will research and explore Uganda. How does Uganda compare to the UK?
Peace Day -Refugees
For Peace Day Year 6 have been studying refugees. We built refugee tents to highlight the number of refugees fleeing war and persecution. Refugees are forced to leave their homes behind and travel to a new country, often to set up home at a refugee camp with tents.

For International Peace Day Year 6 have been looking at the location of wars since WW2. We quickly realised there were so many wars it would take too long to locate them all.

The Transatlantic Slave Trade
As part of Black History Month, Year 6 have been finding out about the Transatlantic Slave Trade. We looked at Bristol's role in the slave trade. We searched the internet to find out how various locations in the city are connected to the slave trade.

For Peace Day Year 6 focused on refugees and the difficulties they face. We made paper boats to highlight their plight and had some reflection/prayer time. We also created thought-provoking refugee art pictures in ICT.

The class was given the challenge of using the ‘Back to the future’ car to connect a circuit together. The children were inspired by a clip of the film Back to the future when the characters needed to get power (electricity) to their car.

In term 1, Year 6 have mainly been working on the ELLI skills of challenge. The class was given the challenge of building the tallest tower only using index cards and creating a marble run which would last as close to 10 seconds as possible.

Year 6 Summer Fair
We had a brilliant time at the Year 6 Summer Fair. The class raised a fantastic £215.95 for our school charity work in Uganda. This brings the total money raised this year to £561.20
