How to apply (Admissions)
There are two ways to apply for a place at our school:
In Year Applications 2024-2025
We still have places in the current school year available for Reception Class and Year 6.
An application can be made for a place for a child at any time outside the usual admissions round. An application should be made to the school by completing the in year application form (link below) and returning it to the school office.
All applications will be considered by the governing body and a place offered if one is available.
Where there are places available but there are more applications then places, the published oversubscription criteria, as set out in the admissions arrangements for the current academic year, will be applied. Parents are advised to read the admissions arrangements carefully before making their application.
If your application is unsuccessful, you will be given the opportunity to join a waiting list and you have the right to appeal to an independent panel.
You will be advised of the outcome of your application in writing as soon as possible. Whilst applicants must be informed of the outcome of their application within 15 school days of receipt, the aim will be to notify applicants of the outcome of their application within 10 school days of receipt.
If you have any questions in relation to in year admissions, please contact the School Office on 0117 3772160 or email: st.josephs.p@bristol-schools.uk making the subject: Admissions.

Proposed Admissions Policy 2026-27
Consultation on Admissions Policy 2026/2027
The governing body of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School are consulting on their proposed admission arrangements for the 2026-27 school year. Proposed changes from the existing arrangements include:
a) The introduction of new oversubscription criteria for:
- Children who are a member of an Eastern Christian Church
- Children of another Christian denomination
- Children of another faith
- Children of a member of School staff, within each category.
b) The introduction of a new Supplementary Information Form (to help process applications from those applying under the religious and/or staff categories).
c) A new In-Year application form (reflecting the above new criteria, for those applying for admission ‘In-year’ i.e. during the school year and not at the start of the Reception Year)
d) The use of a random number generator to help rank applicants, rather than drawing lots.
e) A revised definition of home address to include any address where the child spends any part of the school week.
Comments are not being sought on the rest of the arrangements.
You are invited to provide any comments you may wish for consideration on the proposed arrangements by 12.00pm Noon on 20 December 2024. Final arrangements will be determined by 28 February 2025 and will appear on the school/trust website by 15 March 2025.
Comments should be sent to Camilla Montgomery at st.josephs.p@bristol-schools.uk or by post to St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Chatsworth Road, Fishponds, Bristol, BS16 3QR.
