Our Learning
Monopoly
Year 5 enjoyed a game of Monopoly. As well as being great fun, the game provided lots of opportunities to improve our maths such as money and calculation skills. We also learnt the meaning of the vocabulary in the game such as auction, rent and tax.
Bible referencing
In RE, Year 5 have been working on Bible referencing.
Peace day - refugees
For Peace Day, Year 5 have been studying refugees. We built refugee tents to highlight the number of refugees fleeing war and persecution. Refugees are forced to leave their homes behind and travel to a new country, often to set up home at a refugee camp with tents.
Looking at wars since World War 2
For international Peace Day, Year 5 have been looking at the location of wars since WW2. We quickly realised there were so many wars it would take too long to locate them all.
Praying the Rosary
Today is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary and October is the month of the Holy Rosary; so today Year 5 tried praying with the rosary.

Nelson Mandela
Year 5 have studied the life and artwork of Nelson Mandela. As well as being a great leader and president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela was a talented artist. Much of his artwork was during his 27 years in prison on Robben Island. Mandela was arrested for his fight against apartheid.
Below are some studies we made of Mandela's artwork.

We looked at the famous hand print of Nelson Mandela. Few have left such an imprint on the international stage as Nelson Mandela. It is therefore fitting that the extraordinary imprint of his right hand should so closely resemble the shape of the continent of Africa.

Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary
Year 5 have produced some fantastic art on the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary.
